WFMU 91.1 FM Radio Station Jersey City, NJ I'll use their self-description: "a dystopian cesspool of sinister thought, destructive impulses, anti-social behavior and malevolent mind-control". Here's my description: the coolest radio station in the universe, non-commercial, free-form and progressive. I have been exposed to the greatest music through their worldly but sometimes messed-up DJ's. There were times when I felt distraught and aimless; WFMU was always there to keep my interest. I volunteered my time often throughout the nineties during their annual fund-raising marathon events. Click the icon.
Natalie Wood, a tribute An amazing tribute to the legend and my hero Natalie Wood by a devoted fan, Michelle Merryweather. See dozens of photos and read personal stories, including recounts by her own daughters (I find these passages most moving). Merryweather is so devoted she even visits Natalie's gravesite and takes photos! To quote Merryweather: "Much has been made in the press lately of the tragic circumstances surrounding her untimely death in 1981, and I thought that it should be her remarkable life and career that is thought of, not the sad details of her death. It is not fair to Natalie's memory or her children and immediate family to constantly drag it up time and time again."
Madonna.com How can you not love this woman? I sometimes go to her site and let the music play while I'm cleaning house or doing paperwork. Madonna continues to dazzle and amaze...this coming from someone who at one time didn't like her. She is the ultimate woman, my hero and a legend. Mystifyingly, she seems to get more beautiful and sexy as she ages. There are awesome pics and videos not to mention the music. Wrapped up in all of this is that defiant one-of-a-kind attitude. I would kiss this lady's feet! Update: I had the honor of seeing Madonna live November 22, 2008 two days before breast implant surgery!
WABC Music Radio77 For those of you who grew up anywhere in the tri-state area, 77 WABC music radio should bring back memories. There was a time when WABC was it. They set the standard and radio stations across America emulated their style. I was only a little kid, but I have fond memories of listening to the radio at night in bed...Cousin Brucey, Harry Harrison, Dan Ingram and others are here for you to relive. I found the recordings very sentimental...it took me back to an innocent time when life was simple. I also enjoy listening to 30-year old traffic and weather reports.
http://www.illegal-art.org/ A nice website in the right spirit- showcasing those who dare to make a statement. And at the risk of facing legal consequence. Isn't that what distinguishes all great art? The video section is compelling: Todd Hayne's tribute to Karen Carpenter tugs at my heartstrings while Brian Springer shows George Bush for the clown that he is.
