Why is Madonna my hero?
Growing up I wasn't a big Madonna fan. I liked "Get into the Groove" and enjoyed her performance in "Desperately Seeking Susan". But that was it. Her pictures graced the cover of the New York Post often. (usually with Sean Penn giving the finger or punching a camera man). I didn't buy her sales pitch. Something about her didn't seem genuine. After "Who's that girl?" and her role in Dick Tracy my opinion of her hit an all-time low. But I followed her progress. Her obsession with reinvention intrigued me. By the late-90's, her charm swayed me to the fan side. I loved her earthy look in "Ray of Light", 1998. That was my first Madonna CD. Her music appealed to me more. Now I love it.
I admire Madonna for being a good mother, wife, activist, musical artist, actress and total world superstar. Her international appeal makes a statement on her ability to connect to all types of people. As she gets older, I find her becoming more and more womanly...more sexy and alluring. I think she's at her very best now.
Madonna has reached iconic status. She has avoided the popularity dip that comes with age. If anything, her following and loyalty is greater than ever. I love this lady's style, personna, voice and words. She is IT.
