March 2010 A brief list of what I've been listening to lately:
Music:
I used to list lots of musical artists. Now it's pretty much I listen to whatever. Whatever springs up.
Movies:
All Stanley Kubrick films
Most Columbo episodes
Many Jack Nicholson films
Some Martin Scorcese films
An occasional Angelica Houston film
A rare Burt Reynolds film
One Quentin Tarantrino film
and
everything ever filmed for:
Mr. Show with Bob & Dave
(David Cross & Bob Odenkirk made the funniest TV show ever and hardly anyone knows it)
Comedians:
Todd Barry
Dave Attell
Dave Chappelle
Richard Pryor
Bill Hicks
David Cross
Larry David
Authors:
Various boring chess authors
Stephen King books only when he was on medication
Brett Easton Ellis
H.P. Lovecraft
Kurt Vonnegut
and other authors that you probably are not intelligent enough to know
Currently Re-reading:
Herbert Asbury "Gangs of New York"
I re-read this all the time. It is important to remember the original thugs of New York, some of them were legends. It's fascinating to discover the history, and in many cases, the origins of deception, violence, thievery and fraude in this country. The book is historical and written in 1927, not too long after some of the events chronicled. It is not like Scorcese's movie, it is factual. I do like the movie a lot, it's one of his best in my opinion. But it isn't historically accurate. It did serve to rekindle my interest in old New York.
Television:
"Breaking Bad" is
The only good show on TV
